Johnny Manziel’s chaotic football demise included a ‘$5 million bender’

Johnny Manziel realized a bit too late what killed his NFL career.

“Johnny Football” took the college football and sports world by storm in 2012, but his legendary partying and drinking ended his NFL dreams early.

In the yet-to-be-released documentary for Netflix’s “Untold” series, Manziel seems to tell-all on the chaos surrounding his off-the-field life, including a story that involved what was “probably a $5 million bender.”

The Heisman winner also mentions that when he got everything he ever wanted “that was the most empty I ever felt inside.”

The trailer adds some more sounds bites heavily featuring Manziel, saying, “I thought I played better the harder I partied.”

“19-year-old kid, having 100 grand stuffed under your bed, it was awesome,” Manziel says in the documentary trailer.

Manziel was well known for his wild partying off the field both in college and the NFL, including an infamous 2016 trip where he tried going incognito to avoid the Browns ire.

That trip absurdly included wearing a disguise, going by the name Billy and asking to be comped at the end of a night to avoid being identified.

The trailer for the documentary also acknowledges that “it all changed” after Manziel won the Heisman Trophy — the first freshman to ever do so — in 2012.

“I don’t think we have seen a player play that way and live that way,” another voice says in the trailer.

Manziel put up some of the wilder highlight tapes you’ll ever see with the Aggies, avoiding tacklers and drawing defenders and then throwing over the top.

His teammates would wind up being some of the best in the country, including future first-round picks in wide receiver Mike Evans and tackle Jake Matthews who helped lead the explosive offense.

The Aggies went 9-4 in Manziel’s freshman season, including a stunning 29-24 upset over No. 1 Alabama.

His NFL career was mostly a disaster on and off the field.

Manziel said on “Good Morning America” in 2018 that his issues with alcohol arose because he was self medicating for his bipolar disorder.

The next installment of Netflix’s “Untold” series is set to be released in August.
