John Simm has hinted that a potential Life on Mars sequel is in the works 15 years after it wrapped.
The BBC drama – which ran from 2006 to 2007 – followed Detective Inspector Tyler, (John) struggling to come to terms with waking up in 1973 following a near-fatal car crash.
The show’s success led to the 2008 spin-off, Ashes to Ashes, which was set in London and featured Keeley Hawes as DI Alex Drake.
Although it’s been more than a decade since series two, the 51-year-old actor revealed a third instalment is in sight.
While he was promoting ITV’s latest crime series Grace during Monday’s Lorraine, the 61-year-old host credited the BBC programme for helping her ‘get through lockdown.’
‘I hear that it sort of, might be back. What do you know?’ Lorraine asked.
‘There has been talk of it,’ John said.
‘Me and Phil [Glenister] talked to Matthew and Ashley the two co-creators and they gave us this brilliant idea about how it could come back.’
He continued: ‘I can’t obviously tell you what it is. But fingers crossed.’
Life on Mars nabbed the prestigious pioneer audience award for the best programme at the Bafta TV awards in 2006.
It was reported in 2020 that a third instalment is underway, but no further details have been shared since.
Emmerdale actor Dean Andrews who played DI Raymond Milton in Ashes to Ashes told The Express: ‘It seems to be something that is still ongoing.’
‘And you know, if I was a betting man, I might put a couple of quid on it.’
