John McEnroe fires warning to Emma Raducanu after split from another coach

John McEnroe says Emma Raducanu faces a battle to get back to the top of tennis as he warned: “She doesn’t want to be a one-hit wonder”. The former US Open winner will miss Wimbledon and the French Open after undergoing operations on her wrists and ankle. Raducanu, now 20, aims to return in the autumn but has split with her coach Sebastian Sachs.

From reaching world No.10 last summer, the Bromley-based star has now dropped out of the top 100 and will continue to fall down the rankings.

And Eurosport analyst McEnroe warned: “[Andy] Murray has won three Grand Slams and had an incredible career. Emma doesn’t want to be a one-hit wonder. Whenever you have two or three surgeries you have to be concerned. She is young enough to be able to come back obviously and you want her to be able to. You’re pulling for her. You can feel the stress she has been under.

“It would be a shame if she wasn’t around. I hope she comes back and it will be a road back. It’s not going to be easy. Not until the end of the year at least I guess. It would be nice to have her in the mix.”

Raducanu’s camp insist there is no rush to appoint a sixth full-time coach in under two years since she broke through at Wimbledon 2021 working with Murray’s father-in-law Nigel Sears.

She then worked with Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov before Sachs.

And three-time Wimbledon winner McEnroe claimed the start of Raducanu’s problems were splitting with Richardson after her shock New York triumph.
