John Leguizamo, Todd McFarlane Reunite for PhenomX Superhero Series

John Leguizamo and Todd McFarlane reunite after teaming on 1997’s Spawn movie for the actor’s new Latin superhero comic book series PhenomX.

John Leguizamo is reuniting with Todd McFarlane for PhenomX, a new Image Comics superhero series from the successful actor.

The 1997 Spawn movie is where John Leguizamo and Todd McFarlane first met, with the former playing the film’s central villain The Clown. They later reconnected at 2018’s New York Comic Con, where they decided to brainstorm this new superhero title as McFarlane also provides a cover for the extra-length debut.

PhenomX features an all-Latin creative team, with Leguizamo joined by artist Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez (La Boriqueña) and cover artists Jim Muñiz, José Marzán, Jr. and Juan Fernández.

“In today’s world, it’s incredibly important to support Latin artists,” said Leguizamo. “There is a lack of Latin representation in Hollywood, and it’s important to showcase Latin superheroes.”

“John has been a multitalented artist for such a long time it was exciting to hear that he wanted to bring some of those talents into our comic industry and to help give a voice to a certain segment of society,” said McFarlane. “John is well regarded in the Latino entertainment world and we are both hoping that his character not only makes an impact here but across the globe, regardless of your background. Cool comic books should have a place everywhere.”

PhenomX #1 goes on sale Nov. 3 from Image Comics.
