Joey de Leon earned the ire of netizens after the TV host blurted a joke about “Francise M,” an apparent play on the word “franchise” and the late Master Rapper’s name.

After “Eat Bulaga” mainstays De Leon, Tito Sotto and Vic Sotto’s (TVJ) announcement of their disengagement from production company TAPE Inc., one @tenchi_MNL pointed out via a tweet how De Leon has now apparently experienced being forced to be off-air.

“Joey de Leon several times threw shade ‘kami may franchise,” the netizen said, apparently referring to the host’s supposed allusion to ABS-CBN’s failed franchise bid. “Now he’s experiencing the same for at least one day.”

“Totoo naman talaga ‘yun pero nawala rin…si Francise M. Gets?” De Leon replied, seemingly relating Francis Magalona’s death to the ABS-CBN’s franchise.

This drew flak from netizens who called De Leon out for disrespecting the late rapper and his family.
