Joel Souza, ‘Rust’ director shot by Alec Baldwin, seen outside his home with sling
“Rust” director Joel Souza appeared to be on the mend, as he walked outside of his California home with his arm in a sling a week after a bullet fired on the movie’s set by Alec Baldwin hit him in the shoulder, according to newly released photos.
The filmmaker— who was wounded in the same incident that killed the flick’s cinematographer — scowled as he stepped out Thursday afternoon in Palo Alto while wearing the sling, a flannel shirt and shorts.
The sighting comes as investigators probe why the gun was loaded with a live round on the reportedly chaotic set, where crew members walked out to protest working conditions.
A single bullet fired by Baldwin struck the 48-year-old director after fatally hitting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, as they filmed the Western in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Oct. 21.
On Tuesday, Souza was seen for the first time since the tragedy, wiping his eye and looking upset as he sat in the passenger seat of a car parked on a the street in Palo Alto.
Souza was released from the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center the day after the shooting and later gave a statement saying, “I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna … My thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time.”
