Joe Rogan jokes MacKenzie Scott’s ex Dan Jewett had ‘zero chance’
Comedian Joe Rogan weighed in on billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott’s divorce filing last week – joking her extreme wealth likely played a role in the split.
Scott, the ex-wife of billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, filed for divorce from her second husband, Dan Jewett – a former teacher at a prestigious school her children attended.
The pair is reportedly following a separation agreement and Jewett did not contest the divorce – which came less than two years after their marriage was made public.
Rogan chimed in on the situation during last Friday’s episode of his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience,” revealing he had crafted a stand-up comedy bit about Scott’s marriage to Jewett for his shows but scrapped it “because it felt mean and personal.”
Rogan described the bit to his guest, fellow comedian Greg Fitzsimmons.
“She won $39 billion in the divorce settlement and then she immediately married a high school science teacher. So the bit was about a woman worth $39 billion marrying a dude worth $3,000. That guy doesn’t have s—t to say in that relationship. That guy doesn’t get to pick any of the colors of the walls,” Rogan explained.
“The way I know is I don’t get to pick anything in my house and my wife doesn’t even work. That guy’s f—ked. He has zero chance,” the podcast host said.
“He’s got his pronouns in his Twitter bio, he’s drinking white wine, that guy, he’s neutered. That guy’s a performance artist. He’s putting on a show,” he joked. “He knows how much money she has. I’m like, how long can you be cool? Well it turns out, 24 months. He couldn’t keep it together. There’s no way you can be yourself if your wife is worth $39 billion. It’s just too hard to be yourself.”
Scott is estimated to have a personal fortune of $34.1 billion, according to Forbes. A novelist and committed philanthropist, she has donated more than $12 billion to various charitable endeavors over the last few years.
Rogan, who made clear that he was joking during the segment, later praised Scott for her charitable efforts.
“She’s just fully committed to social justice and prison reform and she’s like, she’s really kind of a beautiful soul in that regard,” Rogan added. “She’s a very, very wealthy woman who’s committed to philanthropy. She’s spending all of this money, billions of dollars, on affordable housing and really cool stuff.”
Scott became one of the world’s richest individuals after receiving a 25% portion of Bezos’ stake in Amazon during their divorce in 2019.
Before the court filing revealing her second divorce surfaced, Scott’s profile on the Giving Pledge website quietly scrubbed mentions of Jewett. His name was also removed from Scott’s Amazon author page and from her Medium posts detailing donations.
