Synopsis

Jimny sells 2,500-3,000 units monthly compared with 5,000 units sold by the Mahindra Thar. Maruti says for now making the Jimny a volume product is not on its agenda. While this strategy is in sync with the fact that off-roading is a small but upcoming segment in India, will the Jimny be able to live up to its global repute?

Fifty years is a long time by any yardstick. In those 18,250 days in between, smartphones sneaked into our lives, dating now means swiping right, a certain Mark Zuckerberg has made socialising virtual, shopping has gone online, writing letters has attained the status of an antediluvian hobby. The list can go on. But one thing that hasn’t changed in the last five decades is the iconic status of the Suzuki Jimny among off-roading enthusiasts
