Jet2 announced they were adding an extra 1m seats between the UK and Greece for next summer, compared to 2019.

And easyJet has since announced plans to add another 500,000 seats to Greece in summer 2022.

With more choice on the market, this means prices are able to drop as each airline will be offering competitive rates.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “Just as we always do, we have responded very quickly to demand, increasing capacity and adding more flights.

“As such, we are looking forward to a fantastic summer 2022 programme, with more than one million additional seats on sale compared to summer 2019.”

Destinations will include Corfu, Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos and Santorini, as well as a new route to Athens from Birmingham and Manchester.

EasyJet will also increase seats to Greece from 1.1m in 2019 to 1.6m next year.

Greek tourism minister Vassilis Kikilias told the Financial Times at WTM: “Having met most of the tour operators and airline companies here in the UK .[…] we are very, very optimistic about 2022.”

He also said Greece is expecting to welcome 35 per cent more Brits next year compared to 2021, reaching the same numbers of 2019.

Mr Kikilias also said that the holiday season is likely to start earlier, with flights starting from March.

Other tour operators including TUI have launched their summer 2022 deals, with sales already more than last year.

A TUI spokesperson explained: “We continue to see strong pent-up demand in the UK, with bookings for summer 2022 now around 120 per cent higher compared to summer 2021 bookings.

“Bookings for May 2022 are recording an increase of more than 150 per cent compared to May 2021.”

And holidays are almost restriction-free after the green, amber and red lists were scrapped, as well as the pricey day two PCR tests for vaxxed Brits.

Brits who have had both jabs will be able to travel abroad without having to quarantine on their return, and only need a lateral flow test on day two.

However, experts have warned that Brits will likely need a third booster jab to be able to go on holiday next year.
