Jeremy Vine urges BBC star to ‘come forward as vitriol thrown at his colleagues’

Jeremy Vine has taken to Twitter to say that the “BBC Presenter involved in the scandal should now come forward publicly”.

The BBC Radio 2 star explained that new allegations surrounding the unnamed presenter could put his “perfectly innocent colleagues” at risk of facing “yet more vitriol”.

Jeremy, 58, also pointed out that the BBC, which he is certain the suspended presenter in question loves, is currently “on its knees” over the sex pictures scandal.

The Jeremy Vine Show host tweeted in view of his 788,000 followers this evening: “I’m starting to think the BBC Presenter involved in the scandal should now come forward publicly.

“These new allegations will result in yet more vitriol being thrown at perfectly innocent colleagues of his.

“And the BBC, which I’m sure he loves, is on its knees with this.

“But it is his decision and his alone,” Jeremy concluded.

It comes after Jeremy himself was one of the BBC stars who publicly announced he is not the unnamed man at the centre of allegations surrounding a male BBC presenter paying a teenager for sexually explicit photos.

Jeremy’s fellow BBC stars Rylan Clark, Gary Lineker, and Nicky Campbell also spoke out to deny they were the unnamed presenter.

The BBC has paused its investigation on the matter while police conduct scoping work relating to the allegations.

The BBC has also confirmed that staff did not speak with the presenter about the allegations until last week, seven weeks after the broadcaster was first made aware of a complaint.

The corporation released a timeline of events today that shows it was first made aware of the allegations on May 18.

However, representatives of the BBC did not speak with the presenter about the allegations until last week, on July 6.

Last week, The Sun reported allegations made by a family member of the teenager in question.

The then-teenager has since spoken out via a solicitor to deny that anything inappropriate or unlawful happened.

Meanwhile, the BBC is yet to name the presenter who is at the centre of the scandal.
