Jeremy Renner pays visit to ‘amazing’ hospital staff who saved his life
The Hawkeye star, 52, is very lucky to still be alive, given that he was airlifted to hospital on New Year’s Day after breaking more than 30 bones when he was hit by and ‘pulled under’ the vehicle.
It was later revealed the actor got injured as he tried to save his nephew from getting hit.
Jeremy spent almost three weeks in hospital and has kept fans in the loop with his recovery, whether it’s selfies from his bed in ICU or videos of him on the exercise bike at home.
In a sweet full-circle moment, the Marvel star revisited the staff who cared for him in those touch-and-go moments.
Taking to Instagram, Jeremy shared a series of photos after delighting workers at Renown Regional Medical Centre in Reno on Friday (April 14).
‘I got to revisit the amazing group of people who saved my life,’ he wrote alongside a snap of him with the medical workers, followed by several praying hands and red heart emoji.
In a touching gesture, the staff displayed a ‘Welcome back’ banner on the screen for his arrival.
He posted another photo of him smiling next to a surgeon, writing a simple: ‘Thank you’.
Jeremy also posed outside the hospital in front of its sign with his walking cane.
Earlier this week, the Oscar nominee made his first red carpet appearance since his horrific accident.
He beamed at the celebration of his new Disney Plus show Rennervations in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and was cheered by fans as he arrived.
The Bourne Legacy star posed for pictures with multiple members of his family, though later had to pause briefly and use his scooter to continue with press interviews.
Speaking to Variety previously, Jeremy admitted he looked ‘a little beat up right now’ but said the show was ‘propelling’ him to get better.
‘I set out a goal to be walking this carpet. And here I am enjoying it,’ he said proudly.
‘Otherwise it would have gone to an abyss with no date and lost traction and excitement and I would have been very, very, very frustrated.
‘I’m very excited right now because we’re here.’
Speaking about his plans to return to acting, he also told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘I’ll always be busy doing things I love to do.
‘I’ll be a little bit more focused on the things that really have value and matter to me… and I’ve got to appreciate my amazing fans because they end up loving the things that I do.’
Despite the nasty injuries he sustained, Jeremy has been adamant that he has no regrets about what he did in the moment.
During an emotional interview with Diane Sawyer, the star insisted: ‘I’d do it again. Because it was going right at my nephew.
‘I chose to survive. You’re not going to kill me. No way.’
In the TV special, he also revealed that he was awake through ‘every moment’ of the crash.
Jeremy’s nephew shared his own recollection and admitted that he thought his uncle had died under the plow.
‘I just perfectly see him in a pool of blood coming from his head,’ he recalled. ‘I ran up to him. I didn’t think he was alive.’
Diane reeled off a list of his injuries, stating: ‘Eight ribs broken in 14 places, right knee, right ankle broken, left leg tibia broken, the left ankle broken, right clavicle broken, right shoulder broken.
‘Face, eye socket, the jaw, the mandible broken, lung collapsed, pierced from the rib bone, your liver. Sounds terrifying.’
When asked if he sees the same face in the mirror now, the Hawkeye actor added: ‘No, I see a lucky man.’
