Jeremy Clarkson’s ex-girlfriend ‘shocked’ that Diddly Squat became a TV show
Phillipa Sage, 52, who was with the ex-Top Gear presenter before his current girlfriend Lisa Hogan, recalled Clarkson’s dreams of ‘an empty diary and pottering around the farm.’
The 62-year-old launched his Amazon Prime Video programme, aptly named Clarkson’s Farm, last Summer, following his attempts to run an expanse of land in Oxfordshire with Kaleb Cooper at his side.
However, it was a shock to Sage, who had expected a more private venture for Clarkson.
‘I’m shocked at what he’s done with it now because I thought he always wanted to keep his private life private. He wanted peace and quiet,’ she told MailOnline.
‘He talked about me running the shop — a sort of mini Daylesford — but like it being a sweet vegetable barn not a blimming commercial enterprise. I don’t get it.’
He’s since expanded further than a ‘sweet vegetable barn’ with recent news of Clarkson opening a restaurant on his Chipping Norton farm.
The restaurant, which has been given the typically no-nonsense name of Diddly Squat Restaurant, will serve food that’s grown and reared on the farm.
The TV presenter initially had his planning application for the restaurant rejected by West Oxfordshire District Council back in January, and has faced quite the ordeal to open the restaurant, which was deemed to be ‘out of keeping’ with the local area.
But (presumably) after another bid which appears to have proved to be more successful, Clarkson has announced that the restaurant is finally able to open its doors.
In a statement posted to Twitter, he said: ‘I’m thrilled to announce that you now have a chance to try the amazing food we grow and rear on my farm at the brand new (but quite rustic) Diddly Squat Restaurant.
‘You can’t just turn up I’m afraid, but you can make a booking by following the link’, before leading his followers to the booking page.
Clarkson’s Farm is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
