‘Jeopardy!’ fans flip that Aaron Rodgers could’ve been host amid vaccine uproar

What is thankful?

“Jeopardy!” fans are breathing a sigh of relief, but still expressing outrage, over the thought that unvaccinated NFL star Aaron Rodgers could have been the famed game show’s host.

Rodgers, 37, recently tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the Green Bay Packers’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The football player was a guest host on the show this past April as the show seeks a permanent replacement for the late Alex Trebek. While he was in the running for the gig, Rodgers quipped that he wanted to quit his day job as a sports star to host the series permanently.

“I would love to be the host of ‘Jeopardy!’ yes,” Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show” at the time when asked if he’d take on the gig full time.

Fans tweeted out their reactions to Rodgers’ COVID-19 diagnosis and expressed their relief that he would never, ever be a full-time “Jeopardy!” host.

“Well, at least now know why he was passed over as the ‘Jeopardy!’ host,” one wrote.

Another mentioned the late and most iconic host of all, Alex Trebek, saying, “I’m beginning to think Alex Trebek cursed his Jeopardy lectern to destroy all that would follow him. ‘Jeopardy’ is a good name for a horror movie now that I think about it.”

“I can’t believe Aaron Rogers hosted a game show and lied about being vaccinated! He put all of the contestants in Jeopardy,” added another user.

“Aaron Rodgers wants to host Jeopardy and wouldn’t get one question right in the Biology category,” another chimed in.

Former “Jeopardy!” champ James Holzhauer, known for being outspoken, also weighed in, writing, “Dr. Oz: I’m the only peddler of pseudoscience to ever guest host ‘Jeopardy!’ Aaron Rodgers: Hold on a minute playa.”

“JEOPARDY CONTESTANT: ill take Vaccines for $2000, aaron RODGERS: I won’t,” teased a fan.

Mayim Bialik has been filling in as a replacement host after executive-producer-turned-host Mike Richards resigned this past summer amid controversy. A slew of guest hosts took the reins of the game show after Trebek’s death from cancer in November 2020.

The “Big Bang Theory” star, who dispelled rumors that she was anti-vax, and record-setting “Jeopardy!” champ Ken Jennings now share hosting duties for the remainder of the 2021 season.
