Jay Blades asks fans for their opinion as he opens Coronation invite

Jay Blades, 53, appeared to be facing some inner conflict after receiving an invitation from King Charles III to attend his Coronation on May 6.

The Repair Shop star shared an intricate and luxuriously printed invite from the Monarch on his Twitter page, before asking his followers what their thoughts were on the upcoming Royal festivities, amid some criticism mounting over the event’s eye-watering £100 million cost.

In view of his 63,600 followers, Jay typed: “THOUGHT OF THE DAY. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the Whole Community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.

“I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I LIVE.

“What do you think?” He asked.

The Repair Shop star received a flurry of responses from his loyal fans who urged him to attend the event as he “deserved” to be there.

@Siddyward typed: “My view is the monarchy is an outdated concept. However Jay if you are asking, ‘Should I go’ that’s up to you mate. You (like me) come from a very working-class background and have worked hard all your life. So if you want to go, go!”

@HelloMissBlow added: “You already do these things and you’ll continue for the rest of your life; so take a weekend off and enjoy this occasion. Many people will be delighted and proud to see you there. Have a wonderful time!”

@DavidHeath8 commented: “I think go if you want. Or go and do something useful on the day, that benefits your community rather than reinforces an outdated class structure.”

@karenheather17 added: “Your invitation is well deserved. You are a shining example to us all of what can be achieved.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Jay’s representatives for further comment.

Back in September, Palace sources confirmed that Charles wanted a ceremony that would not only reflect his vision for a more agile and modern monarchy, but also a “less expensive” one in light of the country’s ongoing economic struggles.

At the time, many praised the head of state for rejecting the opportunity to drain limited resources from the government.

Charles had expressed a wish that his Coronation should be considered “good value” by the British taxpayers helping to fund it.

However, despite the Coronation committee going back and forth with plans, three months later it was decided by the King and ministers to ditch the leaner celebrations and enjoy a larger-scale event.

It was decided that it will be a great “advertisement” for the UK and a chance to showcase the “very best” of the country on the world stage, according to Omid Scobie.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described the bigger Coronation as a “unique moment for the country”.

It was added that all involved, from the relevant government departments to the King himself, were in “lockstep in their determination to deliver” a spectacle to remember.
