Last Friday, a club venue above a fried chicken joint in Poblacion emitted a sultry hue of red from its interiors. Rose petals were laid on the floor and the bar tables, while a spread of hors d’oeuvres were neatly plated on a draped spread. The rest of the venue were dimly lit save for the stage, which had a lighting fixture in the shape of lips neatly perched above the DJ booth. The same lips were on stickers (to be shared with the crowd and placed anywhere on the body), as well as on the floors.
R&B and neo-soul artist Jason Dhakal released his newest single “can’t get enough” at Boogie Manila to an intimate crowd. Flanked by DJs Jia The Menace, Butta B, and cohort LUSTBASS, Jason Dhakal took to the stage to sing “can’t get enough” as well as some unreleased tracks from his soon-to-be-released project coming later this year.
“can’t get enough” takes Jason Dhakal’s musicality to new heights, featuring a resplendent accompaniment of drums and wind instruments to elevate his vocal prowess. The music video, directed by Erika Yuseco of Two Fold, conveys themes of queer desire, warmth, and ultimately, love.
“I feel like every queer person has felt like disincluded and you know, not allowed at the table, all these things,” Dhakal tells Scout in an interview. “I want to be able to make sure that, you know, at any point or like at any job that we have… you give them the platform, you give them the space that they can talk whatever they want to talk and do whatever the fuck they want to do.”
