Jarvis Landry injury update: Browns place WR on IR with Odell Beckham Jr. return imminent

Jarvis Landry has landed on the IR.

The Browns wide receiver suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday’s matchup vs. the Texans, and the Cleveland brass ultimately decided to place Landry on injured reserve. He will miss at least the next three weeks with the injury.

The Browns defeated Houston 31-21 even in Landry’s absence. Landry had just one catch for nine yards on the team’s opening drive, which lead to the injury. Cleveland would run the ball effectively, with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt combining for 146 yards.

Here’s the latest on Landry’s injury and when we can expect him back:

Jarvis Landry injury update

Landry’s MCL sprain originally labeled him as week-to-week, and he will officially miss at least the next three weeks after being placed on injured reserve. He’ll be eligible to return Week 6 vs. the Cardinals.

Landry caught a single pass on Sunday for nine yards in the opening drive of the Browns-Texans matchup. He wouldn’t return after sustaining the knee injury.

Browns wide receiver depth chart

With Landry out and Odell Beckham Jr. missing the first two games of the season, the Browns wide receiver room is wearing thin. Good news for Cleveland and its fans: Beckham may make his return to the field this Sunday vs. the Chargers in Los Angeles after missing most of the last year with a torn ACL.

With Landry out, the Browns turn to Donovan Peoples-Jones, Rashard Higgins and Anthony Schwarz as their top wideouts. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the Browns still don’t have a 100-yard receiver through two weeks, with tight end David Njoku nearest to the 100-yard mark with 94 receiving yards.

Expect Cleveland to lean a bit heavier on the run game and the tight ends should Beckham not make his return to the field this Sunday. Cleveland’s plan was to return Beckham to the field by Week 3, and it appears that he’s on target to make his season debut Sunday.

Through two games, the Browns have put together one of the league’s best rushing attacks, with seven rushing touchdowns total. Chubb has led the way with three rushing touchdowns in the early goings.
