Jane McDonald tipped for Dancing on Ice role with Holly Willoughby

Singer Jane McDonald has been tipped as the replacement for Phillip Schofield as presenter of this year’s edition of Dancing on Ice.

The cruise ship singer stood in for former This Morning star Schofield at the British Soap Awards earlier this month, and is said to have greatly impressed ITV bosses. The 60-year-old could now join Holly Willoughby on the rink after sources confirmed that the presenter has no plans to quit the show.

One insider said: “Jane is now the favourite to replace Phillip on Dancing on Ice when it returns next year.

“She did a great job hosting the Soap Awards earlier this month and bosses are keen to sign her up. She had people in stitches – and they love how frank she is, while also being very warm.”

Schofield, 61, left ITV last month after admitting he had lied about an affair with a runner, so this year’s series, won by gymnast Nile Wilson and skater Olivia Smart, was his last.

Holly’s future at ITV has also been in doubt after the Mirror revealed that the BBC had launched a bid to poach her.

But sources told The Mirror that the 43-year-old has no plans to leave the show. One said: “We are very much expecting Holly to be back. She has not indicated she might step away.”

Singer McDonald has presented a string of travel shows, been a Loose Women panellist and appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox.

An ITV source told the Mirror that any reports about her were “speculation” and that the 2024 line-up would not be confirmed until later in the year.

Late last week, former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes said that ITV carried out in investigation in 2019 into rumours of Schofield’s affair with a young runner.

Speaking on his GB News show, Holmes called for a transcript to be published and said: “They asked the young lad involved in all of this.

“They need a transcript of what actually took place that day, because that was not a thorough investigation.”
