Jamie Lee Curtis vows to ‘fight’ transphobia to protect daughter Ruby
The Oscar-winning star, 64, has been an incredibly vocal trans ally since Ruby, 25, came out as trans in 2020.
At the time, Jamie said that she and her husband Christopher Guest had ‘watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter’, revealing that Ruby was also engaged to be married.
Now, the Halloween star has said it’s her ‘job’ to ‘fight’ transphobia on Ruby’s behalf.
In an interview with Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough, the Everything Everywhere All At Once actress opened up about feeling protective as a mother.
‘This life is about love. Being a parent is about love and I love Ruby. Love her,’ she began.
‘People have said, “You’re so great to accept her love.” What are you talking about? This is my daughter, this human being has come to me and said, “This is who I am”.’
She added: ‘And my job is to say, “Welcome home.”
‘I will fight and defend her right to exist to anyone who claims that she doesn’t. And there are those people.’
As well as Ruby, Jamie shares daughter Annie, 34, with husband Christopher, 75.
She’s spoken freely in recent years about learning as a parent and expanding her knowledge after Ruby’s coming out.
In April of this year, she marked Trans Day of Visibility with a sweet social media post.
‘A mother’s love knows no judgment’, she wrote alongside an adorable photo of Ruby.
‘As a mother, I stand in total solidarity with my children as they move forward in the universe as their authentic selves with their own minds and bodies and ideas.
‘On this trans visibility day my daughter and I are visible.’
In October last year, she also gave an interview expressing her fears surrounding the horrific abuse trans people face daily.
‘I have a trans daughter. There are threats against her life, just for existing as a human being,’ the Knives Out star told El Cine en la SER.
‘There are people who want to annihilate her, and people like her… that is terrifying.’
