Jamie Foxx waves at fans in first public sighting since mystery hospitalisation
In April, the 55-year-old was rushed to hospital after suffering a ‘medical complication’, and stepped out of the spotlight to focus on recuperating.
Following his hospitalisation, fans and famous faces joined together to share their support for the Oscar winner, wishing him a speedy recovery.
The Hollywood star was spotted cruising along on a boat on the Chicago River on Sunday afternoon.
Dressed in a black polo neck and sunglasses, and wearing shades, the actor, singer and comedian was onboard with other guards, and appeared relaxed and in good spirits.
He was seen waving and throwing a peace sign to excited fans on the riverbank as they recognised him, in footage obtained by TMZ.
Foxx’s recuperation has been kept under wraps since he was admitted to an Atlanta hospital.
His daughter Corinne confirmed the situation earlier this year, sharing a statement on Instagram, explaining that her dad had been taken to hospital.
‘From the Foxx Family: We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,’ she said at the time.
‘Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers.
‘The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx Family.’
Amid rumours over his recovery, Corinne later gave an update, informing fans: ‘My dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday!
‘Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support! We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!’
Following reports over Jamie’s condition, pal Nick Cannon – who stepped in to replace him on Beat Shazam – insisted that the Django Unchained actor will shed light on what happened when he is ‘ready’.
‘One thing I’ve always respected about how Jamie’s moved throughout his entire career, if you’ve noticed, he’s always been somebody who is extremely professional and extremely private,’ the dad-of-12 previously told Extra.
‘You don’t ever really hear anything other than just the great work that he puts forth as a professional and the fact that he’s handled this situation with the same manner, you only can respect that.
‘The information that is out there is the information that they want to be out there.
‘I believe when he’s ready, he’s going to address the awaiting fans in the world the way that only he can.’
Co-star John Boyega, who acted alongside Foxx in the upcoming Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone, recently revealed that he had spoken to his castmate on the phone and that he is ‘doing well’.
In a chat with ET Canada, the Star Wars favourite was questioned on how his pal is doing, and replied: ‘Yeah, he’s all good. He’s all good. So we’re just going to wait for him to reappear when he wants to. Privacy and all.’
Their co-star, Teyonah Parris, agreed: ‘Giving people space to heal how they need to do.’
Boyega, 31, had previously admitted that he had struggled to make contact with Foxx after trying and failing numerous times.
‘I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he’s dealing with what he’s dealing with, and we just wish him all the best,’ he said on the red carpet at the premiere of the movie, which Foxx skipped.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he continued: ‘I’ve been calling, I’m just gonna keep on calling. He better pick up. Come on, Jamie!’
