James Martin leaves show guests so gobsmacked they almost miss filming
Melvin Odoom, 42, who is known for his work on the Kiss 100 radio breakfast show and BBC Radio 1, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about how he was left completely gobsmacked when he was invited to the home of famous chef James Martin, 50.
The star described how he and his co-presenter pal Rickie Haywood-Williams, 43, almost missed filming James Martin’s Saturday Morning for ITV due to the star’s surprising obsession.
Melvin, who has teamed up with car company Motorpoint to celebrate its 25th anniversary, described in the interview how he had been totally bowled over by the TV chef’s staggering car collection.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star, who is also a huge fan of cars, recalled: “I’ve done his show before. He invited me and Rickie to his kitchen. It must have been around COVID time because we filmed at his house.”
Melvin went on to explain how it was at James’ large house that he had viewed the star’s incredible collection of vehicles, which is reportedly comprised of at least 42 cars worth approximately £5million in total.

“We didn’t see all of them, because he said he’s got a garage where he keeps some of the others,” Melvin remembered.
“I think we saw a lot of his favourites – but he had two garages in his house full of cars! He had rally cars. He had classic cars. He had brand new ones.
“We saw his house, and then his kitchen for filming, and then he has an actual kitchen where he cooks as well as two garages full of cars.”
“I was like, ‘This is the dream,’” Melvin marvelled. “I mean, you’ve got to respect a man like that.
“You have to respect a man like that because he works really hard,” he added. “I think anyone that can cook is an absolute G anyway.
“But yeah, he’s got a real collection. That would be my heaven to have a collection like that. James Martin’s collection is serious.”
Melvin then recalled how he and his co-presenter had to be “dragged away” to start filming.
He said: “It was quite funny because me and Rickie were so excited about his collection that we had to be dragged to the studio to start filming, because we were all just talking about all the different cars in there.
“And he was like, ‘Oh, sugar, we need to actually go and start filming the show!”
James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs at 10.25 today on ITV.
New research of UK drivers has named multiple airbags, GPS satellite navigation and reversing cameras among the most significant developments in automotive history.
A study of 2,000 adults with a driving licence by Motorpoint found three in 10 could not live without the gadgetry in their car, with other popular inventions including power steering and parking sensors.
Motorists also named the introduction of hybrid and electric vehicles as game-changing, while others welcomed adaptive cruise control and auto-defrosting windshields.
The research was commissioned by Motorpoint to celebrate its 25th anniversary, during which time it has sold over a million vehicles since opening its first store in Derby and now has 19 stores across the UK.
To mark a quarter of a century, Motorpoint has partnered with Melvin and put him to the ultimate ‘Motormind’ automotive knowledge test, where he scored a respectable six out 10.
