James Martin insists ‘horrendous’ food product should be banned
Celebrity chef James Martin, 50, has insisted margarine should be banned as he described the butter alternative as “dreadful stuff”.
The ITV star, who appears on his own cooking show every weekend called James Martin’s Saturday Morning, has previously been open about his love of butter.
Meanwhile, James has suggested margarine is only “one step away from plastic” and that it therefore should no longer be sold in supermarkets.
Butter is made from cream or milk, while margarine uses a blend of oils without any saturated fats, but James still thinks it is “horrendous”.
In 2021, James wrote a book about the benefits of butter, explaining the benefits of growing up on “full fat milk and cream”.

“It’s not the butter in a butter block or butter you put on your toast,” James continued passionately.
“It’s the fact that not as many people cook in the UK as they do in France or Italy or Spain,” he told The Sunday Post.
While James might argue that butter is better quality than margarine, the latter is indesputably cheaper to buy in most UK supermarkets.
James has been hosting his own cooking show on ITV since 2017, which has since aired over 200 episodes.
Before that, he hosted BBC ‘s Saturday Kitchen 2006 for 10 years on BBC One.
James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs this Saturday at 9.25am on ITV.
