James Bond star ‘offered Superman Legacy’s Lex Luthor’ opposite David Corenswet

Just a couple of weeks ago DC Studios boss James Gunn announced the franchise reboot’s new Man of Steel to follow Henry Cavill.

David Corenswet was cast as Clark Kent opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in 2025’s Superman: Legacy.

More recently other stars have been announced including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner (one of the Green Lanterns), Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Ed Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

As fans can tell from the casting, this new Superman movie follows Kal-El living on Earth in a DC universe that already has superheroes and will not be an origin story for the character.

Meanwhile, rumours have abounded that Bill Skarsgård and Nicolas Hoult (who also auditioned for Superman) have been in consideration for the new Lex Luthor, but now a new report claims a James Bond star has officially been offered the role.

According to Giant Freakin Robot’s latest report, DC Studios have officially offered former James Bond star Daniel Craig the part of Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy.

The Man of Steel’s archnemesis is a bald mad scientist/CEO who wishes to rid the world of Superman, viewing him as a threat to humanity.

On the big screen, the character was last played by Jesse Eisenberg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Before that, Luthor was portrayed by Kevin Spacey in 2006’s Superman Returns and originally by Gene Hackman in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies.

Since leaving the Bond franchise with a literal bang in No Time To Die, Craig’s only other ongoing franchise is the Knives Out movies as Detective Benoit Blanc.

Entering a superhero franchise as its main villain would certainly help give Superman: Legacy, which is released on July 11, 2025, some serious star power.
