James Bond: No Time To Die ‘may have no choice but to delay’ claim film industry experts
Yesterday, Paramount Pictures took the plunge and delayed Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick to 2022 from its November release date over delta variant concerns. But as it stands, long-delayed James Bond movie No Time To Die is still set to hit UK cinemas on September 30 and a week later in the US. However, a new report by Variety sees film industry experts claiming Daniel Craig’s 007 finale may still be forced to delay.
Insiders told the outlet that unless there’s a significant boost in cinema attendance, No Time To Die “may have no choice but to move.”
After all, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson would not allow a simultaneous release on streaming for a 007 movie, even if it would help the film make money.
This is a move both Disney and Warner Bros have been taking with their tent pole movies this summer.
However, Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hit UK cinemas today without a hybrid release on Disney+ like Black Widow, so no doubt studio eyes will looking to see how the superhero movie does.

Whatever the case, Bond needs to make hundreds of millions just to break even, which is proving a difficult mountain to climb as the global pandemic continues.
No doubt originally the 007 producers would have hoped for No Time To Die’s global box office to cross $1 billion like Skyfall, the only Bond film to do so in the franchise’s history.
However, the latest Fast and Furious movie, which comes from a series that’s used to hitting that mark, made just $704 million this summer and is the only film during the pandemic to have cleared $500 million so far.
So even with less than 30 days to go until No Time To Die’s release, the 007 movie could still delay.
So for several weeks, Bond’s only real competitors would be Venom: Let There Be Carnage on October 15, which might still delay and Dune later that month.
Even with a small opening weekend, No Time To Die could be a box office slow burner. Nevertheless, having done the maths, MI6 HQ doubts the new Bond movie can be profitable on its current release date.
The outlet calculated that No Time To Die needs to make at least $928 million at the global box office just to break even, with their projection being between just $481-530 million.
No Time To Die hits UK cinemas on September 30 and US movie theatres on October 8, 2021.
