Jake Gyllenhaal Will Produce and Star in Robert Kirkman’s Oblivion Song Movie Adaptation
Robert Kirkman’s comic book, Oblivion Song, is getting a feature film adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jake Gyllenhaal will produce and star in the movie.
Gyllenhaal will be producing alongside Kirkman, Brian Oliver, Bradley Fischer, David Alpert, Sean Furst, Bryan Furst, and Riva Marker. Kirkman created the Oblivion Song with artist Lorenzo De Felici in 2018 and it takes place a decade after almost 300,000 Philadelphia citizens were lost in a cataclysmic event called Oblivion. At first, the government tried to recover them, but they gave up after many years. However, Nathan Cole hasn’t given up on them yet and he makes daily trips to find people who are lost.
Producer Riva Marker said, “When faced with a cataclysmic event that permanently alters our lives, what would we choose to save? Just as Kirkman did with The Walking Dead and Invincible, in Oblivion Song he’s created the potential for a franchise that is profoundly entertaining, and the perfect opportunity to explore big questions we’re reckoning with globally.”
Another Kirkman project, Invincible, was recently renewed for two more seasons by Amazon. While talking about the renewal, Kirkman said, “The comic book is truly a love letter to a genre that Cory (Walker) and I grew up reading and loving, and it’s been a gratifying journey to watch our characters come to life again through the animated series. We’re beyond excited to continue this story for at least two more seasons.”
