Jaime Lannister Actor Hasn’t Watched House of the Dragon Because Opening Credits Were Too Similar: ‘It Was a Little Strange’

House of the Dragon wrapped up its first season on HBO last fall, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones, can’t get himself to watch the prequel for one particular reason: the opening credits.

Coster-Waldau told Entertainment Weekly in an interview earlier this week that he hasn’t gotten around to watching House of the Dragon, but somehow managed to catch the opening sequence at a random moment.

“One day it came on and I saw the opening credits,” he said. “And it was a little strange because it was the same music and the title sequence was kind of similar. I was like, ‘Ah, this is too soon. Too soon.'”

Coster-Waldau did say that his observation of the similarities between the two shows’ opening sequences as strange doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t watch the prequel series eventually. Because just three years had passed between the end of Game of Thrones and the start of House of the Dragon, he said he’ll wait a few more years before he can dive into the Targaryen family drama.

“I’ll give it a couple of seasons, then I can binge-watch it and then there’s the whole thing,” he said. “But I know that so many people love that show, and I’m really happy for them.”

House of the Dragon has been renewed for a second season and it’s slated to be two episodes shorter than the first, with HBO citing that it’s due to story flow. However, Season 2 may not be released until 2024.
