“Jaadui Pitara” for learning and teaching for the foundational stage – Times of India

New Delhi: Toys, puzzles, puppets, posters, flashcards, worksheets and attractive books – that’s how the three to eight years old children will study at the foundational stage. Union education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday launched the “Jaadui Pitara” for learning and teaching for the foundational stage, designed with the motto “Learning through play”. NCERT has also developed trainers handbook mapping to curriculum goals for future training of teachers at the foundational stage.
Envisaged as a child-centric, innovative, toy-based learning experience that will strengthen conceptual understanding amongst learners of three to eight years of age, the Jaadui Pitara has been designed based on the . The National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) 2022 which describes “how children at this stage learn best through play — through activity and doing. Children enjoy learning through several ways – talking, listening, using toys, working with material, painting, and drawing, singing, dancing, running, and jumping.”
“Jadui Pitara comprising playbooks, toys, puzzles, posters, flash cards, story books, worksheets as well as reflecting the local culture, social context and languages is designed to pique curiosity and accommodate the diverse needs of learners in the foundational stage. Developed under the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the pitara is available in 13 Indian languages,” said Pradhan.
“It is a giant leap towards enriching the learning-teaching environment and making it more child-centric, lively and joyful for the Amrit Generation as envisioned in the new National Education Policy (NEP),” the minister added.
Pradhan said that NCERT as a national think-tank must leverage technology to translate the materials in the “Jadui Pitara” in all Indian languages and endeavour to expand its reach as well as make it available to all SCERTs for transforming the early childhood care and education scenario of our country.
“These resources should be made digitally available on the DIKSHA platform – portal and mobile app. All Foundational Learning material should be in mother tongue, the Minister added. NCERT has developed a trainers handbook mapping to curriculum goals for future training of teachers at Foundational Stage,” he said.
The NEP 2020 envisages 5+3+3+4 curriculum pedagogical structure. The department of school education and literacy under the ministry of education has constituted a National Steering Committee headed by K Kasturirangan to develop the National Curriculum Framework for each of the stages.
The NCF-FS was launched by ministry of education last year and as per the curriculum framework, NCERT has developed and collected Learning Teaching Material (LTM). Accordingly, “Learning Teaching Material” for foundational stage was launched today using the concept of “Jaadui Pitara”.
The Jaadui Pitara has recommended learning and development in five domains including Physical Development, Socio-emotional and Ethical Development, Cognitive Development, Language and Literacy Development, Aesthetic and Cultural Development, Positive Learning Habits has been included as another domain of development at this stage.
