ITV ‘decides not to replace Phillip Schofield on This Morning’
The Wylde Moon founder, 42, will be the only permanent fixture on the long-running show and will be joined ‘mostly’ by Josie Gibson, 38, and Craig Doyle, 52, it has been claimed.
Alison Hammond, 48, and Dermot O’Leary, 50, who present the programme on Fridays, will also reportedly join the Dancing on Ice host ‘sporadically.’
Describing Holly as This Morning’s ‘Queen Bee’, an ITV source said: ‘The idea of finding the next Phil to sit next to Holly has been disregarded by This Morning’s bosses. It will be Holly along with whichever rotating presenter is selected to join her. It will essentially be Holly’s show.
‘Bosses hope that they can put all of the Schofield scandal behind them and start concentrating on the content of the show rather than the twosome presenting it. At least this way there won’t be any falling out.
They continued to the Daily Mail: ‘Holly is so excited about the plan, she loves Josie, Craig, Alison and Dermot. It’s a happy ship and she made the decision not to quit but instead to return and keep things going while being at the helm. Holly is absolutely determined to head up the challenge to make the show a success again.’
It comes after reports that Holly was set to renew her contract on This Morning for a higher salary than the £700,000 a year she is rumoured to be paid by ITV after she returns from her summer break.
The position of Holly’s permanent This Morning co-host has been vacant since Phillip, 61, confessed to lying about an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with runner and resigning from all his ITV projects.
After Phil’s exit, Holly took a break from the show and upon her return said was ‘shaken, troubled, let down’ and ‘full of questions’ in a now widely-mocked statement.
She has since been predominantly presenting alongside Craig, who fans previously begged ITV to hire as Phil’s full-time replacement.
Following Phil’s confession, This Morning has been rocked by claims of ‘toxicity’ from former stars Dr Ranj Singh and Eamonn Holmes, with the former claiming he was managed out when he raised concerns with ITV bosses.
ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall later addressed claims about the culture at the programme during a parliamentary committee.
Shooting down the accusations, she said: ‘What I know is that when we talk about culture it’s incredibly important to me, personally and so it deeply disappoints me, right?
‘But we do not recognise that in This Morning and the reason for that is that we have tangible evidence to tell you that the vast majority of people at daytime and at This Morning are engaged.
After Dr Ranj made his allegations public, ITV insisted it had a ‘robust duty of care’ towards its staffers in a letter penned by McCall.
In the wide-ranging message, she addressed Dr Ranj’s claims and says the network was ‘sorry’ to read his statement.
