Manchester United legend Roy Keane has been left dumbfounded by Ian Wright’s revelation that he touched Liverpool’s ‘This Is Anfield’ sign during his playing career.
The sign has become synonymous with United’s rivals, with Liverpool players often pictured reaching up to touch it on their way out of the tunnel at Anfield.
The former United captain looked bemused when he was asked whether he ever followed suit with the Liverpool players during his playing career.

He told ITV Football: “Of course not. It is traditional for English players but not for opposition players, not sure why you touched it Wrighty. It’s childish Wrighty, why did you touch it? What did you get out of it? What benefit did you get out of touching it?”
It comes after the ex-Arsenal talisman made the surprising revelation that he sneakily touched the sign when he visited Anfield with his respective clubs.
He revealed: “Of course I touched it. I didn’t touch it when we was going out with the guys. For the warm-up, you’d look around and touch it because it is iconic, it’s an unbelievable picture.
“I didn’t want them to see me [his teammates] because I didn’t want it to feel disrespectful. I wasn’t being disrespectful it’s just I wanted to touch that sign,” he continued.
He then argued back with Keane: “It’s not childish, it’s an unbelievable thing to be able to do. I’m one of the people that touched it, I bet some of these fans never got to touch it.”
