Is Uni The Only Option? – Maddalena Pizzingrilli, Gumley House
Thousands of young adults in years 12 and 13 are currently having to make very big decisions about what they are going to do after they have turned 18 and completed their A levels. Whether that is choosing to go to university and continue their studies or find an apprenticeship where they can gain hands on experience in the field they want to pursue. However, it is a very common theme that many pupils do not explore all their options, and so limit themselves to what they’ve been told to do or are following what all they’re friends are doing.
For most students going to university is the best option for them, however for some they’re chosen career pathway may be best executed through degree apprenticeships or apprenticeships with leading companies in the field. This could be very beneficial as they can gain experience in the industry that can help majorly in their future, that they would otherwise not get from going to university. As it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find jobs in present day as employers are looking for more than just good grades and want to see that your passionate about the field, whilst favouring people with experience already working. A young woman Julia Durka said: “I’m keen and interested in the fashion world and I am looking into pursuing it after my A levels. And I believe it is a good thing that I have the option to perhaps do an apprenticeship where I can gain experience from industry professionals since it is a highly competitive career.”
Even though this maybe be daunting for many to have to decide what’s next, it is good to remember that you can only do what you think is best for yourself at that time.
