Iron Man star delivers worrying update on film contract with Marvel
Over the weekend, Disney held their annual event, D23. During the glitzy occasion, Marvel announced the next few pieces of the MCU puzzle to hit both cinemas and Disney Plus in the coming years. During this celebration, a star from the Iron Man series revealed some devastating news about his position in the series.
Don Cheadle, who played James Rhodes (better known as War Machine) in the franchise, was caught on the red carpet to discuss his future. The star first made his appearance in 2010’s Iron Man 2, where he replaced Terence Howard as Tony Stark’s best friend.
Since then, he has had major parts in Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Cheadle has already filmed his upcoming Disney Plus show, Armor Wars, which focuses on Iron Man’s technology falling into “the wrong hands”. After that, though? The actor delivered worrying reasons why he may be done with the MCU.
Cheadle was quizzed by Variety on how many years of the MCU he is “contracted to”. The 57-year-old replied: “I’m done with my contracted years in the MCU.”
Although this news is no doubt dreadful for fans of the franchise, he did give fans a glimmer of hope.
Cheadle added: “Now, it’s just like if something sounds fun and I’m presented with it it’s like, yeah let’s go!”

Cheadle recently spoke about how “different” Rhodey will be in the upcoming series.
“It’s going to be very surprising to a lot of people,” he teased. “And the great thing is there’s just going to be so much opportunity to learn a lot about him and for him to learn about himself and for us, hopefully, to really be able to get behind what makes him tick.”
He also made reference to the deeper connections the series have with the comic books of the same name.
Cheadle revealed: “If you know anything about the lore, and you’ve read the comic books, you understand that it’s a series that was built around Tony’s Stark Tech getting out and Rhodey taking it on to go get this tech back from the bad hands, the bad actors whose hands it is in.”
“And as Marvel does,” he added. “It’s also an opportunity to take the mythology and tip it on its head a little bit and come up with different ways to tell the story, so it’s doing that and has done that in spades.”
With such a massive storyline on Rhodey’s shoulders, this could be his final outing as the hero – but does it mean he is going to be killed off?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is available to stream on Disney Plus now.
