iPhone owners are just realising three iPhone mistakes make it so much slower
MILLIONS of iPhone owners might be accidentally slowing their handsets down.
Three simple mistakes can reduce the performance of an iPhone – and they’re all easy to make.
Apple prides itself on making fast smartphones that can handle almost any task you chuck at them.
But an official memo from the tech giant reveals some of the reasons your iPhone performance may be lacklustre.
Problem #1 – Storage too low
One surprising reason your iPhone might be running slow is a lack of available storage.
The way your iPhone’s iOS software is built means that very low storage can impact performance.
Apple recommends not running your storage down too low – check your free space in Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
“If your device is low on storage, iOS or iPadOS automatically frees up space while installing an app, updating iOS or iPadOS, downloading music, recording videos, and more,” Apple advised.
“iOS or iPadOS only removes items that can be downloaded again or that aren’t needed anymore.
“For best performance, try to maintain at least 1GB of free space.
“If your available storage is consistently less than 1GB, your device might slow down as iOS or iPadOS repeatedly makes room for more content.”
Problem #2 – Phone wrong temperature
Another big problem for your iPhone is when you let it get too hot or cold.
Heat is particularly bad, as not only can performance be affected but your battery can be permanently damaged.
However very cold temperatures can also degrade performance temporarily.
“iOS or iPadOS adjusts your device’s performance if it’s become too warm due to external conditions,” Apple explained.
“Like being left in a hot car or used for an extended time in direct sunlight.
“Move your device to a cooler location and let its temperature adjust.
“Very cold temperatures can also slow your device. If your device runs slowly after being exposed to cold, move it too a warmer location.”
Problem #3 – Low Power Mode
Lastly, having Low Power Mode switched on can also make your iPhone work slower.
This is a special mode that is offered to you when your battery runs down very low.
But switching it on means you’ll give up some performance and features to have more battery life.
“In Low Power Mode, some features are turned off and some tasks might take longer to complete,” Apple said.
“Consider leaving Low Power Mode off if you need your iPhone or iPad to function without low-power restrictions.”
You can tell that you’re in Low Power Mode because the battery icon in your status bar is yellow.
It’s possible to turn Low Power Mode off by going into Settings > Battery.
