iphone: Apple has started pushing users to install iOS 15, here’s how – Times of India

Tech giant Apple has taken an aggressive stance when it comes to users installing timely updates to its iOS platform. It will not provide security updates to devices that haven’t been updated to iOS 15, as per a report by Cult of Mac.
Apple had earlier decided to keep sending the security updates separately to the iPhones and said it would keep delivering them to those who want to continue with the iOS 14 until they were ready for iOS 15. In a span of a few months, that view of the company has changed. Now, Apple wants everyone to upgrade to iOS 15. The latest version is iOS 15.2.1 and there is the iOS 15.3 in beta. It should be noted that 63% of Apple users actually upgraded to iOS 15, which is seen as a slow adoption pattern.
Keeping in line with this new ‘commandment’, Apple now displays only iOS 15 as the upgrade option on the devices running only iOS 14. The update was optional before but not anymore. Also, the company has also reportedly “removed the ability to install other versions of iOS 14.”
“So, if you’re running iOS 14.8, for instance. It was previously possible to update to iOS 14.8.1 and ignore iOS 15. Now, iOS 14.8.1 is not an option. It’s either iOS 15 and the latest security improvements, or stick with what you have.”, says the report.
If you are an iPhone user, it would be best to update to the latest version of the operating system otherwise the security updates meant for your phone will be blocked by Apple. If you happen to be in the know of how Apple’s firewalls have been bypassed by hackers more frequently in recent years, you know how dangerous it could be for your phone to not get the security updates.
