iPhone 15 Ultra could finally catch up to Android

TL;DR

  • A rumor claims that Apple will rebrand the Pro Max to the Ultra next generation.
  • The iPhone 15 Ultra could get exclusive features like 8K video and a larger battery.
  • The price of the iPhone 15 Ultra could go by $100.

It’s only been a week since the iPhone 14 came out and the rumor mill has already started for the iPhone 15. According to this rumor, we could see a rebrand of the premium model and new exclusive features that Android owners have been enjoying for years now.

In a series of tweets, established leaker, LeaksApplePro, put out into the ether a number of predictions regarding the next iPhone. The tipster claims all four models of the iPhone 15 will have USB-C, which isn’t a surprise given that USB-C will become mandatory in the EU. They also say that Dynamic Island will appear across all four devices.

Although there’s some device unification going on here, LeaksApplePro suggests the company will maintain its two-tier chipset approach.  This means the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus would get this year’s A16 chip and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would get the next generation A17 chip.

The most interesting prediction the leaker gave, however, was about the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The rumor claims that Apple could change the name of the Pro Max to the Ultra. In addition to a name change, the iPhone 15 Ultra may come with features that won’t be available in the other models. One of these features could be 8K video recording, but LeaksApplePro was unclear if the feature may also appear in the Pro model.

For Android users, 8K video recording is something that’s been around for years. It seems like Apple will still be playing the catch-up game to Android if true.

The tipster also mentions that Apple wants to improve battery life on its handset, especially on the Ultra, by 3-4 hours. As for price, they predicted that the Ultra could see a price bump of $100, taking the device from $1,100 to $1,200.

Of course, this is all speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt as with any rumor. But, hopefully, Apple’s next iPhone will be less iterative and more of a jump up from the previous generation than the iPhone 14 ended up being.
