iPad users, WhatsApp may finally have ‘good news’ for you – Times of India

The iPad has now been around for more than a decade and so has been WhatsApp. In those 10 years or so, the iPad has gone on to become the bestselling tablet in the world and WhatsApp one of the most popular apps. Yet, surprisingly the iPad hasn’t had an app for WhatsApp in these many years. However, it looks like all that is set to change. According to WABetainfo, the platform that tracks upcoming features on the app, WhatsApp is finally working on multi-device 2.0, and users will be able to use an iPad as a new linked device.
Not just that WhatsApp has plans to offer support for Android tablets as well with the multi-device feature. The feature is confirmed to be under development as per screenshots shared by WABetainfo in a tweet. The tweet also notes, “It’s under development and it will be released in a future update.”

How will WhatsApp work on iPad?

WABetainfo has answered certain questions regarding WhatsApp availability on the iPad. WhatsApp for iPad will not be a web app, instead it’s a native app. You will not need your phone connected to use the app on iPad. It will work independently, as per WABetainfo. It also said that the beta users of WhatsApp on iOS will automatically have the iPad version in the future.
A WhatsApp spokesperson in an interview with TechRadar has explained how multi-device feature would work. “Multi-device means that users will have the same functionality that is available on the current public versions of WhatsApp Web, Desktop and Portal, just without the need to have your phone connected.”
There’s no clear date on when the feature will actually be rolled out to iPad users. However, WhatsApp had said last month that the feature will be rolled out fully to all users in the next one or two months. So it might just be very soon that iPad users could finally use WhatsApp on the device.
