Into the Pit is a ‘retro-FPS roguelite’ coming to Xbox Game Pass, which is bound to be polarizing

Into the Pit

Those words, in concert, are like daggers to some

Today during the extremely low key Microsoft Gamescom kickoff conference, we mostly got a look at existing/known games, and very much in a “we knew most of this already” fashion. But Into the Pit, one of the few actual reveals, managed to make an impact.

Initially thinking this was a New Blood joint (they kind of have that genre on lock), Into the Pit is a retro-focused FPS roguelite. Now I know those words are painful to some of you, but the “lite” bit, if handled correctly, might give you some solace.

Here’s the gist of what Into the Pit is offering, narratively: “As a member of a family of lore-hunting mystics you are summoned to a cursed village, drawn by rumors of a demonic portal. Dark magics have overwhelmed the village, It’s up to you to rescue the survivors, grow your powers, and journey forth into the pit.” I’m getting extreme Doom and Heretic/Hexen vibes which is mostly a good thing.

They will, however, have to compete with the Five Nights at Freddy‘s “Into the Pit” SEO. Good luck! It’s set to arrive on October 19 on PC (also on Steam) and Xbox One (via Game Pass) from Nullpointer Games, which is just in time for Halloween.
