We love taking pride in our homes – especially after spending so much time in them over the past two years.

So we’re always on the hunt for things to make them more aesthetically-pleasing – but also functional.

To lend us a helping hand, an interiors expert on TikTok recently revealed a few things that can instantly make a home look cheap.

But, thankfully, they are all things that can be easily tweaked.

The account, which goes by the name of CT Interiors, lists three features that will not work in your favour if you’re going for classy decor.

The TikToker explains that she thinks no set colour scheme, direct light or LEDs and an asymmetrical design are all things that make a room look less expensive.

Three things that can make a house look cheap:

  • No set colour scheme.
  • Direct light or LEDs.
  • An asymmetrical design.

In follow-up videos, CT Interiors also lists a few other cheap features to be aware of, including certain coloured/patterned carpets, small tiles and a lack of storage.

On the flip side, she also shares a few ways people can make their home look more expensive.

Her suggestions include floor-length curtains, hiding TV cables, a lower sofa, neutral colours and panelling.

However, it’s safe to say that not everyone agrees with her tips.

Many have stressed that they love injecting colour into their homes – particularly with rugs and carpets.

One person said: ‘Coloured and patterned carpets are what makes a house a home.’

While another chipped in saying: ‘Coloured/patterned carpets are great, you just need to pick the right colour/pattern for your space.’

Another person replied: ‘This person only thinks white homes are expensive.’

Elsewhere in the world of TikTok tips, a man has shared a list of household hacks that people should know before they turn 30 – including how to crack an egg, how to light a multi-wick candle and how to use tongs to pick up a hot pot lid.
