Instagram’s new text based app could feature 500 characters word limit for users: Report

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is reportedly developing a text-based app that will directly rival Twitter. Reportedly, the company is currently conducting tests for this project with celebrities and influencers. In fact, one insider disclosed that the app has been discreetly accessible to a select group of creators for several months.

According to Lia Haberman, a social and influencer marketing instructor at UCLA who shared a preliminary app description screenshot, the upcoming app, separate from Instagram but with the option to link accounts, is expected to launch as early as June. Haberman’s screenshot also suggests that there are plans to make the app compatible with other Twitter competitor apps like Mastodon in the future.

Haberman adds that individuals will be able to share text updates of up to 500 characters and also post photos and videos. The first advantage is that users can directly interact with their audience and peers. Additionally, the platform will seamlessly integrate with Instagram, facilitating easy connection with their current followers. Furthermore, it will be compatible with other applications such as Mastodon, thereby extending its accessibility and will also prioritize the safety and security of its users.

Regarding security, the app promises to transfer the list of blocked accounts from Instagram, ensuring a consistent user experience. Additionally, the app will enforce the same Community Guidelines that Meta, the parent company of Instagram, applies to its other apps, aiming to foster a secure and genuine environment.

Unlike Twitter, this app stands out due to its focus on inclusivity. Meta promotes the app’s ability to work harmoniously with other platforms like Mastodon, which is often considered a competitor. This compatibility provides users with the convenience of searching for, following, and engaging with profiles and content across diverse platforms, effortlessly expanding their reach.
