Instagram: Instagram may soon get its own AI chatbot: What it means for users – Times of India
According to the image, the chatbot will be able to answer questions, give advice and help users write messages. With this feature, users will also be able to choose between “30 AI personalities” and find out which one they like best. Meta is yet to make any official announcements in this regard. However, AI chatbots seem to fit the past statements made by the company about its AI ambitions.
Meta’s AI chatbot plans
In February, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company is “developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways”. He also mentioned that the company was exploring ways to make such bots accessible through text conversations “like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger.”
The tweet doesn’t mention when Meta is planning to launch such bots on Instagram. It also doesn’t point out the safety tips the company will be implementing for its users before introducing the chatbots.
Other social media platforms with AI chatbots
The potential of chatbots being an engaging feature on social media platforms has already been explored by other platforms. In February, Snapchat launched its own “My AI” chatbot which is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Other platforms like Character.ai which allow users to train and talk to chatbots based on popular fictional characters have also gained popularity. For this purpose, bots that are not even intended for social engagement have also been adopted.
However, the challenge for these platforms is not only developing an engaging chatbot but also ensuring that these bots don’t indulge in offensive or dangerous interactions. Reports of such incidents have already been in the news where chatbots have offered ‘“disturbing” advice to users.
