Inside the only IKEA hotel in the world & it even serves the famous meatballs

IF you love a visit to IKEA, you can now stay in its hotel – and there is just one in the world.

Inspired by American motels, the IKEA Hotell is furnished entirely by the homeware brand.

Set in Älmhult in Sweden, the hotel is a dream holiday destination for Ikea enthusiasts all over the globe.

The hotel first opened in the 1960s but has expanded over the years to include 254 rooms.

All of the rooms in the hotel are furnished with products from the Swedish retailer, so guests looking to revamp their own homes will leave feeling inspired.

Holidaymakers will be pleased to know there’s a restaurant on site too, and it even serves those famous IKEA meatballs as well as a number of other dishes.

Other amenities include a gym and a sauna as well as a free laundry service.

There’s also a garden on the hotel grounds, complete with an insect hotel called The Buggingham Palace, and there’s a golf course nearby too.

Parents can also keep the kids entertained inside the indoor play area along with several other puzzles and games all available at the hotel.

Conference rooms and workspaces can also be found in the hotel – making it ideal for business travellers.

For those guests who are interested in delving into the history of IKEA, the IKEA Museum is just a stone’s throw away too.

Ida-Maria Rigoll, the destination sales lead at IKEA Hotell, told Travel + Leisure: “People are often a bit surprised when they find out about us, they know what IKEA is, but they don’t know that we have a hotel.”

While it may not be the most well-known hotel in the world, some holidaymakers have travelled thousands of miles to spend a night there.

One person wrote on Tripadvisor: “We came all the way from Australia to check out this IKEA experience, and we were not disappointed.”

Another added: “My wife and I couldn’t resist stopping here on our journey around Southern Sweden – what a wonderful hotel.

“It was spacious and spotlessly clean with great staff and lovely food.”

Guests who want to a unique stay can book a room for £86 per night per person.

Despite being set in a small town in Swedish, the hotel can be easily reached via a two-hour train from Copenhagen in Denmark.

Direct flights from London, Manchester, or Edinburgh to Copenhagen can be snapped up for as little as £30 one-way too.

There are plenty of other quirky hotels where Brits can stay too including a hotel shaped like a wine bottle or one a hotel shaped like a bum-hole.

Some UK hotels have even been converted from old prison buildings.

HMP Bridwell in Liverpool and Malmaison Hotel in Oxford are now luxurious hotels built into old prison cells.
