Inside remote beach with Hollywood connections you can only reach at certain point of day
A BRITISH beach featured in Hollywood films has been getting rave reviews from holidaymakers – despite only being accessible at certain times of the day.
Marloes Sands in Wales has been tipped as the place to head to this summer, even though you can only reach it by foot.
The remote bay provided the backdrop for 2011 film Snow White And The Huntsman starring Thor actor Chris Hemsworth and the Twilight movies’ Kristen Stewart.
Oscar-winning Hollywood legends Katharine Hepburn, Peter O’Toole and Sir Anthony Hopkins also filmed there for 1968’s The Lion In Winter, which won three Academy Awards.
TripAdvisor reviews give it an average rating of five out of five stars – but users warned you could find yourselves stranded.
Visitors are being told the beach is not only accessible just by foot, but only at certain times of day – and when the tide is out.
One person raved: “What a beautiful beach! We came on a bank holiday (we’re from Kent) and were so surprised that it wasn’t busy at all! If it was a Kent beach it would be packed with thousands of people.
“It’s a beautiful beach to see from below and above. It’s a great walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. We walked along to Gateholm Island as well which is stunning.”
Another said: “Love this beach with its jagged rocks on the beach and cliffs surrounding area.”
Yet a third cautioned: “A little bit rough access to the beach but worth it. A beautiful beach and a crystal clear water.”
While this family told of being caught out by the changing conditions writing: “We unfortunately got there at high tide and only got half an hour before the whole beach was cut off.
“So please make sure you only go at low tide.
“Very disappointed little boy with us but happy we managed to see some spectacular scenery. Would go back for sure at low tide.”
Travellers can approach the beach via the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path loop walk – taking in an iron-age fort, a deer park, and potential sights of wildlife including seabirds, seals and porpoises.
National Trust members get free parking, before any walking – and the Runwayskiln café has been recommended as a nearby stop-off.
Nearby Skomer Island – which can be viewed across the picturesque horizon from the Marloes Sands beaches – is home to eye-catching puffins, pods of dolphins and an Elvis-impersonating car park attendant.
Wales has previously been highlighted as a cut-price destination for domestic holidaymakers.
Earlier this year, however, TripAdvisor awarded the title of best UK beach to Gorleston-on-Sea.
The Norfolk resort featured in Richard Curtis and Danny Boyle’s Beatles-themed movie Yesterday and also has celebrity fans including chart-topping singer Ed Sheeran.
