Inside custom-built antique motorhome that sold for eye watering sum at auction

THE world’s oldest motorhome has sold at auction for £63,000.

The 20ft-long vehicle was custom-built from a Ford Model T in 1914.

It has two overhead bunks and a double bed, wood stove — and a top speed of 45mph.

The interior also includes a leather sofa driving seat that swivels round to face inside, Welsh dresser and brass lamps.

It was commissioned by the Bentall family — behind the store chain — but was sold in the 1920s, then found abandoned in Surrey in the 1970s.

With the help of a cabinet maker friend, he fully restored the caravan, including its original polished pine floor and luxury leather sofa where the driver and passenger sit.

The living area of the wooden caravan has two overhead single bunks as well as a double bed below them.

There is a wood stove that is used for cooking and heating, a folding table, cupboard space, and even a letterbox.

After a four-year restoration, it was regularly put on display at car shows before its sale at Bonhams last weekend.
