Inside Coronation Street Tim Metcalfe’s marriage to co-star Sally Carman
IN CORONATION Street Tim Metcalfe is fighting for his life after a brutal attack by serial killer Stephen Reid.
Meanwhile the actor behind the soap character is at home safe and sound with the wife he met in Weatherfield.
Joe Duttine has played the loveable Tim since 2013, when the character appeared on the show as the son of Geoff Metcalfe and Elaine Jones.
Joe’s character has been through his fair share of family drama on the series, but when it comes to the actor, he is more than happy with the real life family the show allowed him to have.
The soap star met Sally Carman on set when she joined the Corrie cast in 2017 as troubled mum Abi Webster.
Romance blossomed between the pair as they spent time together while filming, and fans eventually picked up on the relationship when they left a Coronation Street summer party holding hands.
Sally later said that the couple started to share puddings with each other on set when they got closer.
The lovebirds eventually moved in together after just a year of dating, and ended up getting engaged in an unusual way during lockdown.
The 42-year-old English actress shared on a podcast that Joe proposed to her via a storyline in a book he was reading.
She told host Kate Thornton: “It was while we were in lockdown and we were staying in the Dales with his sister.
“He had just read a Benjamin Meyers book called The Gallows Pole, which Shane Meadows is making into a film right now. It’s all about these coin forgers and he was banging on about this bloody book for weeks and weeks and weeks.
“And I’m like: ‘I’m glad you’re enjoying that book, I won’t need to read it because you’ve literally told me everything that happens in it!’ We were walking around this big field on this walk and he went: ‘Kids, have a look in between the dry stone walling because you know, they used to put coins and precious things to hide them in the walls.
“So I’m having a look and there’s this box. And I opened it. I’m like: ‘No way.’ And then there was another box inside. And I turned around and he was on one knee.”
Co-stars were delighted with the news, and flocked to the announcement post to share their best wishes with the pair.
Joe and Carman originally planned to tie the knot at Christmas, which is Carman’s favourite time of year, but Covid restrictions meant the big day didn’t happen until July 2022.
It ended up being the perfect time of year for a big Mediterranean honeymoon though, and the newlyweds took to Instagram frequently that summer to share snaps from their time together in Italy.
Now Carman is a happy step mum to Joe’s three kids, and the couple live in a small village near Stockport together.
The cute couple recently celebrated their one year anniversary with a little cottage getaway which included a blissful moment in a hot tub.
