Inside £250m waterpark opening in the UK with 25 pools, 35 slides & indoor beach

NEW pictures have revealed how a huge £250million waterpark will look once it’s finally completed.

The “next generation” park will offer guests 25 pools, 35 water slides, thermal bathing and a wellbeing spa.

Therme Manchester was first confirmed back in 2020, with the huge attraction already open in Bucharest.

Now new images released by Therme provide further details of what people could expect when it’s finally completed.

They reveal a new “rippled waves” design, which replaces the old design of a single building underneath a glass dome.

Instead, the new idea is to have a “pavilion style concept” with several separate structures, all connected.

The aerial mock-up also claims to offer improved accessibility, with south, north and east lobbies to accommodate visitors arriving via different methods.

An “inner urban wellbeing garden” is also included in the development, which the plans say was “inspired by an English meadow”.

Members of the public can review and make their feelings known about the plans before they’re submitted in the coming weeks.

The “well-being resort” is being built on the former EventCity conference centre which has since been demolished, and it is right next to the Trafford Centre.

Inside the 28-acre Therme – roughly the size of 19 football pitches – will be 25 swimming pools for all ages, as well as a wave pool.

The pools will have 35 water slides to choose from as well as water fitness classes.

Kid-free guests can head to the adult-only section which will have swim up bars, water lagoons and more than 30 steam rooms and saunas.

It will even have the UK’s first all-season beach with palm trees and sun loungers.

Other highlights include a 10,000sqm ‘wellbeing garden’ and restaurants and cafes.

Should the new designs be approved, bosses hope to begin construction later this year.

It is hoped the park will open in 2025, although an official date and ticket prices are yet to be announced.

Anyone who can’t wait can visit Therme Bucharest in Romania which opened in 2016, although the Manchester attraction will be double the size.

Another waterpark not too far from Manchester reopened its doors earlier this year.

Splash World in Southport was temporarily closed in late 2019 for a refurbishment, but that project was extended considerably by the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the renovation is now complete and the park reopened its doors for the first time in almost half a decade last month.

The park offers a wide range of attractions, including thrilling water slides, a lazy river and interactive play areas suitable for all ages.
