Innocent discontinues product range you’ve probably never heard of
Have you ever announced some important (at least in your eyes) news only to get a wholly lukewarm reaction?
That’s what happened to Innocent this week, after the brand revealed one of its product ranges is to be axed.
The drinks manufacturer tweeted what it described as ‘nutterly disappointing news,’ saying: ‘We’re sad to say that our dairy free range will be leaving shelves in the next few weeks.’
Making light of the line’s poor sales, Innocent added: ‘We know some of you really love our coconut, hazelnut and almond drinks, so we wanted to say a big thanks for buying them. We really appreciate all five of you.’
The joke hit a little too close to home, though, as comments poured in from people saying they’d never come across the plant-based milk alternatives in stores.
‘I never knew you did them can we have another try,’ said one Twitter user, while another admitted: ‘I didn’t even know they existed.’
‘I have never seen these in my life,’ added another commenter, to which someone else replied: ‘Literally the first time I’ve seen/heard of them.’
Although some customers moaned their favourite drinks’ demise, the overarching sentiment was one of bemusement: of course a product that’s barely available is destined to fail.
Innocent saw the funny side, though, replying to one disgruntled shopper: ‘Unfortunately, just like Shakira’s hips, our sales figures don’t lie.’
Then, when another bemoaned the lack of stock in their local supermarket, the brand responded: ‘Well at least you’ll be used to it still not being there.’
The Innocent social media team won a lot of praise for their witty retorts, but sadly banter isn’t enough to keep the vegan milk industry afloat.
If you were one of the lucky five who managed to get their hands on Innocent dairy-free, you’ll be sad to know that all three varieties (coconut, almond, and hazelnut) will be discontinued over the next few weeks.
As stock sells, it won’t be replenished, so get what you can while there’s still time… if you can find it, that is.
They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, and in this case, they mean literally. RIP Innocent dairy-free, looks like it’s back to the meal deal smoothies for us.
