Injury scare for Rohit Sharma ahead of WTC final against Australia

The Indian team has suffered a major setback ahead of the WTC final. Captain Rohit Sharma got injured during batting practice. Rohit hurt his left thumb during net practice.

On another nippy and overcast morning in London, Rohit was among the four squad members who turned up for optional practice. R Ashwin, Umesh and K S Bharat were the others who showed up in the morning session along with the net bowlers.

Rohit, who was taking throwdowns, was seen holding his left thumb following a hit in the nets but he did not appear to be in a lot of discomfort. As a precautionary measure, he did not bat after that.

In the optional practice session Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur did not turn up for practice.

While, Rohit Sharma, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav turned up for practice. During nets batting practice on the eve of the WTC 2023 final, Rohit was hit on the left thumb and he got a bandage done. He immediately did not stop to practice after the incident but eventually, he did. Later on, the 35-year-old batter took the bandage off.

The WTC 2023 final will begin at 3 pm IST from June 7 till June 11 at the Oval, London, a reserve day is also in place if the weather intervenes to spoil the sport.

BCCI sources said “there is no issue” with him ahead of the title clash beginning here on Wednesday.

The Oval, which hosted its first Test back in 1880, is staging a five-day game for the very first time in June.

The mornings have been cold and overcast in the last two days but forecast is clear for the first three days of the game. Rain is expected over the weekend and there is a reserve day kept for potential loss of play during the five days.
