Inhumans’ Medusa’s Hair Becomes a Jaw-Dropping Hellfire Gala Gown in Fan Art by Mark Brooks
Marvel’s Medusa is not only headed to the Hellfire Gala in some fan art created by Mark Brooks, but the Queen of the Inhumans is wearing a gown that’s made entirely up of her own hair.
Brooks, a comic book artist who has worked for DC and Marvel, posted some Hellfire Gala-related fan art he created showing Medusa’s getup for the X-Men’s second annual event. The art sees Medusa dressed from head to toe in an outfit that stems from her long, red hair. “She doesn’t need a designer, she’s got it covered (literally),” Brooks posted.
Brooks also recently created more Hellfire Gala art showing Spider-Man’s MJ taking Venom as her date to the festivities. He later put out a Twitter poll asking fans to chime in as to who the next piece should focus on, with the winner going to Moon Knight with 36.4 percent of the votes. Other options included Valkryie, Howard the Duck and Hela.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Medusa first appeared in 1965’s Fantastic Four #36 under the name Madame Medusa. Initially being portrayed as a villain, Medusa was eventually revealed to be part of a race of superpowered individuals known as the Inhumans. After overcoming the amnesia that brought about her villainy, she became a well-known hero in the Marvel Universe who is equipped with prehensile hair that can grab enemies or whatever else the situation may call for. Medusa, who is married to Black Bolt, made her live-action debut in 2017’s short-lived Inhumans series, where she was played by Serinda Swan.
The story of the X-Men’s second Hellfire Gala will play out in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1, which comes from Gerry Duggan, C.F. Villa, Matteo Lolli, Russell Dauterman, Kris Anka and Carlos Gomez. Similar to last year’s event, the issue promises a number of new twists and turns, including the reveal of a new X-Men team, that will shape the future of the Marvel Universe. The synopsis reads, “At last year’s Hellfire Gala, fans were mesmerized by jaw-dropping fashion moments from Emma Frost’s dazzling trio of Dauterman-designed pieces to Colossus’ unforgettable look by artist Lucas Werneck. This year will be no different – only this time around, mutants won’t be the only ones making fashion statements! The Hellfire Gala will be a night packed with repercussions for the entire Marvel Universe, and heroes from every corner will be in attendance.”
X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 releases on June 29 from Marvel.
