The film Bhediya is about a man named Bhaskar who turns into a werewolf after being bitten by a wolf in the forests of Arunachal. Varun Dhawan plays the character of Bhaskar in the film. Kumar talks about how Maddock Films’ Amar Kaushik approached MPC Films with the concept of Bhediya. He says the sheer challenge of bringing to life the concept of a human transforming into a wolf makes it highly coveted for visual effects artists.
Breaking down Varun Dhawan’s transformation into a wolf in Bhediya
It took almost 6 to 12 months only to prepare the script for the VFX: building planes and the different assets, and just planning how to execute the process. Kumar reveals how deep they went with the details, be it with their research on which species of wolf to portray, or what the facial structures would look like. Here on, they used 3D modelling to bring to life a very realistic looking wolf, modifying it further to make Varun’s transformation as seamless as possible.
Kumar also spoke about some of the technical challenges that the crew faced during the making of the film. A major part of it involved getting bitten by leeches and other insects found in the forests of Arunachal.
