Car & Classic are auctioning the car with the current bid at £22,100 after 25 bids at the time of writing.

Any prospective buyer of the classic 1988 Ford will become its first owner for 36 years.

And as it was originally a Ford Dealer demonstrator, the hot hatch was fitted with the 1990 updated interior.

It was initially bought from the dealer by the head mechanic and remained in his care until 2015.

The prestigious motor was meticulously maintained throughout his ownership along with handwritten service and mileage records.

Boasting a five speed manual gearbox and a 1.6 Litre 4 cylinder turbocharged the classic car is a favourite of petrolheads.

And the iconic motor is in immaculate condition, having only covered around 500 miles since 2015, when a timing belt, water pump and new exhaust were also fitted.

Car and classic auctioneers said: “Reported to be in excellent mechanical health with everything working as it should, the car starts and drives superbly with the only issue being the need to replace the rear hatch struts which are included.”

The classic motor has a unique look with its original black paintwork that still has a deep shine and depth to it.

The auctioneers do add that there are some untreated stone chips at the front and a tiny ding in the front nearside wing.#

Meanwhile, the slightly flared arches, front and rear spoilers and the distinctive bonnet vents hint at the extra performance capabilities of the Escort RS Turbo.

And it sits purposely on the tarmac with the original alloy wheels all recently shod with new quality tyres.

Things look good under the bonnet too with a nice clean engine bay and the rear hatch needs a couple of new struts fitted to help keep it open.

But the inside is just as impressive as the exterior.

The whole period cloth interior is in great condition with only some slight signs of use evident on the front Recaro seats.

It features electric front windows and door mirrors, a sunroof and an updated stereo unit, which can be changed back to the original unit which is also included.

And the carpets, door cards and headlining are all in great clean condition

The auctioneers describe it as a car “that has been very well looked after and pampered during all its life”.

Princess Diana famously drove a Ford Escort RS Turbo which sold for £650,000 at an auction last year.

Diana drove her favourite run-around — given a “stealth makeover” by the manufacturer — from 1985 to 1988.
