Incredible £1 laundry method promises ‘super soft towels’ every time

A hero mum has revealed how to stop your clothes and towels coming out of the wash rougher than they should be. Her incredibly easy way of saving your favourite clothes and towels takes a couple of minutes – and involves an everyday household ingredient.

Victoria is a mum who enjoys posting on her TikTok account @lifestylewithvictoria about her favourite recipes, workout routines and how she lives a “healthy and non-toxic lifestyle.”

Responding to one of her followers on how to make an amazing fabric softener using only natural ingredients, Victoria said that her fabric softener was “cheap” and “super-affordable as it is going to last a long time”. She added that the key ingredient is “easy to access as you can get it literally anywhere.”

Victoria said her recipe only required three things. First, you need a jar that is able to hold over half a gallon of liquid. But the mum added there was no need “to go the fancy route” with an expensive jar.

The mum then said that the main ingredient for the fabric softener was vinegar. She said: “The benefit of vinegar is that it is a deodoriser and a cleaner, so it is going to deodorise and clean the clothes all in one.”

She also explained that using a natural fabric softener was better than using a store-bought one.

She said: “Have you ever noticed that after many washes if you use fabric softener your towels become a little more rough and not as soft as when your first got them? That is because fabric softener is leaving a film on your towels and your clothes. It’s not necessarily getting clean.”

Victoria said her recipe “will not do that” and added that your laundry will also not smell like vinegar. She said: “They will just be super duper soft and they will smell good, it’s amazing.”

The third and last ingredient that is needed for the recipe is essential oil. Victoria said: “Pick a scent that you like, I like lavender and eucalyptus. Those are my two favourites.”

It should be noted that some essential oils can be toxic for pets, and that anyone wishing to follow this recipe who has pets should do their own research or skip adding essential oils. Essential oils that are especially poisonous to both cats and dogs include citrus, peppermint, pine and tea tree oils.

In the comment section of her video, Victoria said: “I recommend not using essential oils and just vinegar only if [washing] for pets!”

Victoria said she pours “about little over” half a gallon of distilled white vinegar into a jar. She then puts around “30 to 35” drops of essential oil into the mixture. After that, the mixture is ready to be used for laundry, as Victoria said: “I just put the lid on and that is it.”

In the video’s comment section, viewers said that a quarter of a cup of the fabric softener recipe should be used per laundry load. People also thanked Victoria for her advice, as one person who tried the recipe said it had “worked wonders” for their laundry.

Another user who tried out the recipe wrote: “I’ve been adding the vinegar to my clothes and towels for a few months now and I see the difference. I will never go back to the other stuff.”

One person added that using distilled white vinegar in your laundry had other benefits as well, They wrote: “It’s great for clothes, keeps it disinfected and keeps the washing machine clean too.” Victoria replied to the user and said: “Yes! Love vinegar for many reasons.”
