In the quest for a good night’s rest, we tried these ‘miracle’ sleep patches

You really can’t underestimate the power of sleep. A rested night for us can be the difference between bagging a free coffee from your barista or being asked if we’ve considered a senior discount.
There’s only so much you can do to disguise the tell-tale signs of exhaustion. Lathering concealer under our eyes as thick as butter or drinking so much caffeine we may as well swallow the coffee beans whole are only temporary fixes.
The key is to get a good night’s rest.
Wondering whether the hype was real, we tried Kloris Sleep Patches, which are a new and nifty (yes, we’re bringing back the word nifty) way to get your precious eight hours of sleep, according to the brand.
These patches claim to get to work in around 30 minutes and can encourage a restful night without the risk of waking up feeling all groggy or dazed.
They’re activated by the body’s natural heat and are a blend of all-natural ingredients specially formulated to give you the best night’s sleep.
It includes valerian, which has been shown to possibly improve sleep in a ton of studies, as well as passionflower and hops. But the true star of the show is Kloris’ CBD blend.
CBD stands for cannabidiol, and is one of over 110 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids which are found in the cannabis plant.
However, it’s not got the THC that is in cannabis. While THC gets you high, CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive properties and is available to buy as food and wellness supplements from health stores.
These chemicals act on cannabinoid receptors located throughout the body as part of its endocannabinoid system, which helps balance a whole host of bodily functions like pain sensation, mood, memory and appetite.
Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids, which are the equivalent of those found in the cannabis plant. The endocannabinoid system is self regulating, but many of us need a boost – this is where CBD supplements come in.
What the experts say about CBD
The UK Food Standards Agency advises against using cannabidiol extracts during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and for anyone taking any medication. It recommends healthy adults should take no more than 70mg a day.
What it’s purported to do is give you all the calm and relaxation, where we can, in the case of these patches, hopefully reap the rewards of a good night’s sleep.
The reviews for the patches are reassuring, with one customer describing it as a ‘miracle’ product, while others praised it for helping them drift off and stay in a deep state of sleep.
Another shopper said it even helped them sleep despite their husband’s painfully loud snoring. And if you’ve ever had to lie awake at night next to someone who sounds like a leaf blower next to a speaker, you’ll understand what a statement that is…
When we tried it, the first night wasn’t wildly groundbreaking, but nights two and three brought about less effort to drive off to sleep – and stay asleep.
Metro tries the Kloris sleep patches
Kat says: ‘The first night I tried this, I felt more relaxed but I wasn’t sure if it was a placebo effect. The following day, however, I came on my period and had the usual tight cramping. I popped one of these patches on shortly before bed and the pain definitely felt like it eased. It didn’t disappear but I was able to tolerate it and I didn’t find it hard to drift off to sleep.
‘I tried the patches the following night and found the period pain was eased again.
‘I usually wake up a few times in the night but I have to say, my sleep was much heavier once I started using these patches. I was skeptical but I have to say I’m impressed!’
